SHNU: On June 9th, Scott Slovic, ecological critics, editor of ISLE (Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment) and professor from University of Idaho, was invited to arrive at SHNU Comparative Literature and World Literature Research Center, a key National Program of China. He also delivered a speech on the significance of science, literary criticism and interdisciplinary research. Slovic believed that ecological criticism has not gone far enough on the road of interdisciplinary research and had heated debated with the teachers and students who listened to his lecture. Graduated from Stanford and Brown University, Slovic marks one of the pioneering advocator and leader of American ecological criticism movement. He founded ASLE (Association for the Study of Literature and Environment), the largest and one of the most influential academic organizations of the United States. Until now, ASLE boasts organizations across the America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. |
