SHNU: The opening ceremony for British math teachers’ Shanghai visit as an exchange program of Sino-British mathematics teachers was held on Sept. 22.
Officials from China’s Ministry of Education, British National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL), Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and relevant staff from SHNU were present at the ceremony, which was also attended by over 120 math teachers of primary schools from both countries.
Officially launched in this April, this exchange program has been jointly implemented by NCTL, National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics and SHNU. As an important item or preparation of this program, 70 British math teachers would receive a three-day training in SHNU and have one-week classroom observation in 30 primary schools of 10 districts of Shanghai. Shanghai will also send 30 teachers to Britain for a four-week exchange activity in November this year and February next year.
This is the first exchange program sponsored by a developed country to send teachers to each other’s country for China and Britain. The program serves to improve the professional development of math teachers of primary and middle schools and uplift communication levels of international exchange between China and Britain in the educational field.
