2014 Global City Forum Held in SHNU

SHNU: The 2014 World City Forum, hosted by the Development Research Center of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and Word Bank and undertaken by SHNU, was held on October 30th to welcome the UN World Cities Day the next day.
     
Experts and scholars from universities of China, US, Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Belgium and Australia as well as officals from Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the ceremony. 

    In his opening speech, SHNU President Zhu Ziqiang said that the “city-region” has undergone great changes and the building of global city by Shanghai has become a hot topic among the scholars. SHNU established the Urban Development Research Institute in 2013 to offer better intellectual support for the construction and development of Shanghai in building Shanghai into a world city.
      
    After the opening ceremony, experts discussed the strategic direction and development road of Shanghai in the future 30 years from different perspectives. Journalists from various news media reported the event.

    In the closing ceremony, SHNU Party Secretary Lu Jianfei summarized speeches of the experts. He pointed out that city research field had much to do with the nation’s economic and social development. “As SHNU has obvious advantages in this field, we will cooperate with the government and universities both at home and abroad to offer intellectual support to future development of Shanghai,” Lu said.

    On October 31, Lu Jianfei attended the opening ceremony for the first “World Cities Day” and made an opening speech at the Global City Forum at the World Expo Center in the afternoon.
