SHNU: Good news came from Salzburg, Austria that Prof. Li Cong, Dean of SHNU College of Music, was elected Vice President of Confédération Internationale Des Accordéonistes (CIA) in the 132nd plenary meeting of CIA, becoming the first Chinese and even Asian musician to work in the highest decision-making level of the international field of accordion musical instrument.
As a member of the INTERNATIONAL MUSIC COUNCIL (IMC-UNESCO), CIA was set up in France in 1930. Prof. Li Cong was elected to the art committee and became the first Chinese in the executive level of international accordion field in 2010. And in the general election this time, Li stood out from 6 candidates and became one of the 3 vice presidents of CIA.
Since his graduation in SHNU in 1982, Prof. Li has devoted to accordion teaching and research. He was elected Chairman of Chinese Accordion Association and organized the 64th World Cup Accordion Championship of Shanghai, China, pushing the Chinese accordion to the international music stage.
At present, the accordion major of SHNU has been enlisted as university quality courses of Shanghai.
