Academic Seminar of Refugee Protection Held in SHNU

14 十一月 2014

SHNU: Sponsored by Shanghai History Association and SHNU and John H. D. Rabe Exchange Center, the International Academic Seminar of Jacauinot and Wartime Civilian Protection was held in SHNU. It was attended by the German general consul in Shanghai, vice German general consul in Shanghai and representatives from International Red Cross.
Godfather Jacauinot, with the French full name of Robert Charles Emile Jaquinot de Besange, was born in France in 1878, and passed away in West Berlin in 1946. He was an almost-forgotten humanitarian. In 1937, he protected 300,000 Chinese refugees in Shanghai and 100, 000 civilians in Wuhan in 1938. He even savored refugees of Germany, his former enmity country.
Jacauinot signals not only the Sino-French friendship, but also the reconciliation between France and Germany. This year marks the 50th anniversary of establishment of Sino-French diplomatic relations.
