SHNU: At the invitation of Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, a US delegation of 14 headed by West Virginia Senate Education Committee Chair Robert Plymale came to SHNU and had a group discussion with relevant officials and experts of Shanghai about the basic education in Shanghai on November 17.
Former SHNU President Zhang Minxuan, who is also in charge of PISA (Program For International Student Assessment), presided over the meeting. Zhang talked about the basic education in Shanghai and SHNU’s participation of Shanghai in PISA in brief. He also revealed the “Shanghai secrets” behind students’ good performance in PISA: historical and cultural tradition of China and educational reform of modern Shanghai. “We should analyze the test results and know what kind of challenges and problems we are facing”, Zhang said.
Zhang answered questions from the delegates about the students’ pressure, teacher assessment, teacher-student feedback, teacher-parents reaction, lesson preparation, headmastrer training, etc.
Also present were Yan Huifen, Director of Basic Education Department of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Wanghao, Director of Education Bureau of Minhang District, SHNU teacher Dr. Xu Jinjie Dr. Zhu Xiaohu from Shanghai Institute of Education Science and Prof. Wucheng, Director of SHNU Foreign Affairs Office.
