SHNU: On December 11th, Irish President Michael D. Higgins met Assistant Professor Pu Durong from SHNU College of Foreign Studies at Four Seasons Hotel, Pudong Shanghai. Mr. Higgins presented as a gift to Pu a delicate photo frame embedded with W.B. Keats’ poem Sailing to Byzantium. On that very night at the reception party by the Irish President Higgins at Pudong Shangrila Hotel, Professor Pu was confirmed as the translator for the president’s poems. Besides being a political pioneer, Mr. Higgins is also a poet with four anthologies. The arrangement is the opening of celebrations on the 150th anniversary of W.B. Keats, a great writer of Ireland. He has published four anthologies. SHNU College of Foreign Studies has been dedicated to organizing students to read Irish literatures, poems, and rehearsing Irish dramas, etc. The annual SHNU Irish Drama Festival has become unique to SHNU campus life. |
