Professor from University of Massachusetts Invited to Speak at SHNU

SHNU: On December 15th, Professor Yan Wenxu, Dean of Department of Education Leadership of University of Massachusetts, was invited to SHNU and speak with the theme of Multilevel Analysis of Social Capital and Achievement Gap: Implications for Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis. Some teachers and students of SHNU College of Education attended the lecture.


Professor Yan probed on three main factors of abstract social capital, namely, family responsibilities, information network of parents and family rules. He studies students from different ethnic groups and arrived at his conclusion of the influence of family capital amount on students’ math performances at school by means of survey and statistics.

An alumnus of SHNU since 1982, Professor Yan won his MA and PHD in the US and now becomes the tenured professor of University of Massachusetts, Boston. He was twice the senior scholar of FULLBRIGHT of the US.
