SHNU Hosts the 3rd Annual Meeting of CAAP

SHNU: The 3rd Annual Meeting of the Chinese/American Association for Poetry and Poetics (CAAP) was held on December 18th. SHNU Vice President Liu Xiaoming, Prof. Marjorie Perloff, President of CAAP and Prof. Li Zhaoguo, Dean of SHNU Foreign Languages College, spoke at the opening ceremony.      

Over 120 experts and scholars from 70 universities including Harvard University, Stanford University (US), Dongguk University (Korea), Nagoya University (Japan), University of Tartu (Estonia), and some famous Chinese universities attended the meeting.


The two-day meeting focused on 7 topics: modern and contemporary poems, meaning/politics of poetry forms, translation poetics, comparative literature and poems and poetics under the visual field of comparative art, poems in the global context, in and out of the text, re-reading of poem classics. The attendants recited their newly written poems or those of Shakespeare and US Poet Laureate Maya Angelou.

SHNU is also commended by its rich humanistic atmosphere, thoughtful reception and the ability toof organizeing high-quality international academic conferences.

Established in the University of Pennsylvania in January, 2008, CAAP is an international non-profit academic organization devoted to poetic creation and poem study. It attempts to promote the poetic creation and research through studying the translation of poems and relevant researches in both China and the US in the global context.
