Sino-French Scholars Focus on The Second World War from Multiple Perspectives at SHNU Sino-French Forum

On September 2nd, in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, the 2025 Sino French Forum: The Second World War from Multiple Perspectives hosted by the School of Humanities at Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) was officially held. This forum adopts a combination of offline meetings and online live broadcasts. More than 40 Chinese and foreign scholars from Fudan University, University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, School of Political Science of National Defense University, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, East China Normal University, Shanghai University, Shanghai Normal University, Shanghai Maritime University, Hangzhou Normal University, Shanghai Anti-Japanese War Research Association, as well as the Chinese Consulate General in Lyon, Sorbonne University in France, Caen University in France, and the French Academy of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences attended this academic forum. The purpose of this forum is to learn from history and promote the correct World War II perspective of cherishing peace and opposing war through in-depth dialogue between Chinese and French scholars, contributing wisdom to the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Chen Heng, Vice President of SHNU. Lin Zaiyong, Secretary of the University Party Committee, and Consul General Jiang of the Chinese Consulate General in Lyon delivered speeches successively. Professor Wu Jingping from Fudan University gave a speech titled Reflections on Sino French Relations during World War II. Associate Professor Isabelle Davion from Sorbonne University in France gave a report titled The Resistance Movement in France: Current Research Status. In the afternoon meeting, participating scholars discussed specific issues related to World War II and Sino-French relations, covering topics such as the history of World War II, the origins of the Eastern theater, Japan's Southward Policy, Indochina Peninsula game theory, historical memory construction, imagery, and historical narrative. In the final roundtable discussion, Chinese and French scholars had in-depth and enthusiastic exchanges.

Scholars have promoted the integration and mutual learning of academic perspectives between China and France through cross-cultural dialogues.
