SHNU: On September 27, John G. Blair, Honorary Professor of University of Geneva, and Jerusha McCormack, Honorary Professor of Beijing Foreign Studies University, were invited to deliver lectures at Xuesihu Overseas Master’s Forum of SHNU.
Professor Blair’s lecture was entitled Why and How to do Comparative Study of Chinese and Western Cultures. In his opinion, although various countries and nations have their own cultures and love them, they need to give up their cultural ethnocentricity and establish the idea of cultural equality.
Professor McCormack talked about W. B. Yeats' Lapis Lazuli. She displayed the delicate pictures of the 70-year-old birthday gift of Yeats, which is a piece of lapis lazuli with Emperor Qianlong's verses carved on it. What's more, she also explained the different attitudes of Chinese and westerners towards the tragedy depicted in the poem.
