On September 23, three students from SHNU’s Foreign Languages College Attended an event called TEDx Shanghai held in the U.S. Pavilion. The two main topics are “Courage” and “Care”. The whole event, which was like a small forum, lasted about three hours.
The event started at 14:00. The U.S. Consul General Bea Camp offered welcoming remarks to all the people present. Ten minutes later, video of TED Talk on courage was played. In the first video, the talker was Aimee Mullins, a woman who lost her legs but did not lose her faith and confidence. In the second vedeo, a dancing performer from Taiwan named Hsu Fengyi shared her experience of courage with the audience. She was not outstanding at all in terms of learning from books, for she had no talent for studying in front of the desk. But she finally found her Mr. Right -- dancing. She was eager to be the first-rank dancer in Asia, and she made it.
After the two videos came the discussion time. People from different universities and companies in Shanghai talked freely and exchanged each others’ experiences and stories of courage.
The event then moved onto the second topic -- care. On the stage there were four CARE speakers from different fields in various occupations. They were all here for one reason -- to appeal to more people to help those in need of help, such as poor children and families, disabled kids both physically and mentally. They introduced briefly about their organizations and aims.
Following speeches, there were interaction with CARE speakers as the last item of the event. Some questions about more specific information were raised and Martin Alintuck, the President and CEO of Pavilion, joined in the discussion and summed up the whole event.
