SHNU:A delegation from Joint-Africa Pavilion visited SHNU on the morning of Oct. 20. Headed by Mr. Chen Jintian, Director of the Joint-Africa Pavilion Management Department, the delegation consists of representatives from the following African participant countries, namely Botswana, Eritrea, the Republic of Cote d’ivoire, Buddha, Cameroon and so forth. SHNU Vice President Lu Jianfei received the guests. Looking back on the academic exchanges and cooperation between SHNU and Africa, Lu hoped that the areas of communication can be expanded and the level of cooperation be enhanced “If the success of joint-Africa pavilion is compared to towering foliage, the first drop of water for the seed comes from SHNU African Research Center,” said Mr. Chen Jintian, Director of the Joint-Africa Pavilion. He also bestowed high praise on the dedication of the 8000 SHNU volunteers to the Expo. He suggested that more exchange activities be initiated to promote communication between the students and scholars from both universities. Representative from Ethiopia expressed the gratitude to SHNU for the warm welcome and the SHNU volunteers’ service to its exhibition. He also expressed their willingness to cooperate with SHNU in the near future. Also present at the meeting were Bai Yimin, Director of the International Exchange Division, and Shu Yunguo, Director of the Center for African Studies of SHNU. At the end of the meeting, the two sides exchanged gifts and took a group photo. The delegation also paid a visit to the SHNU Museum before they went back to the Expo site. On Sept. 8, a Photo Exhibition of Exchanges of Shanghai Normal University with Africa was held in the Joint- Africa Pavilion. SHNU was the only university to be invited to have an exhibition in the Pavilion. For years, Shanghai Normal University has made great efforts on cooperation and exchanges with universities in Africa, which can be fully reflected from three major cooperation subjects: the Botswana Confucius Institute, the work of SHNU African Research Center, and the active participation into the Sino-African universities 20+20 cooperation plan. This year, two student delegations from Africa have been invited to SHNU, and next month SHNU will send its students to Botswana for cultural exchanges. In fact, the cross-cultural exchanges do not merely limited within students, but teachers and professors as well. For instance, one of the martial art teachers from SHNU was sent to Africa this year and his performance aroused local people’s keen curiosity. (By Xue Min)
