SHNU: Recently, at the invitation of primary and middle schools in Columbia, the SHNU Confucius Institute of the University of Missouri carried out a lecture tour in Columbia, giving knowledge about Calligraphy, Spring Festival, paper-cut, diabolo and Tai Chi, all typical of Chinese culture.

Teachers of CI arranged classrooms with decorations that Chinese used to celebrate the Spring Festival like couplets, paper-cutting pasted on panes, lanterns. They also taught the Chinese song “Congratulations to You” (usually sung in festivals) to the students.

Tai Chi lecture triggered interests of local students and teachers and they followed the Chinese teachers to do Tai Chi earnestly. While in the 1-hour calligraphy lecture, the audience experienced the charm of Chinese calligraphy and miraculous Chinese characters. Under the guidance of CI teachers, every child present could write the Chinese character “Fu” (meaning good fortune).

The cultural tour received a warm welcome from the teachers, students as well as their parents. The serial lectures advanced the teaching of Chinese in local regions and promoted the dissemination of traditional Chinese culture in western America.
