On October 24th, during a visit to Cuba, Vice President Li Ye, along with Mariam Hernández Colina, First Vice President of the UH, jointly inaugurated the UH-Shanghai Normal University Joint Center for Higher Education Studies and the University of Havana-Shanghai Normal University Marxism Research Center. Attending the inauguration ceremony were Wang Jian, Dean of Academic Affairs of SHNU, Zhang Zhidan, Dean of the School of Marxism, Kirenia Rodriguez Puerto, Director of International Exchange at the UH, Yelenne Díaz Lazo, Head of Public Education in Marxism, Alina Forreliat Barrios, Director of Quality Management, Ariel Terrero Escalante, Dean of the School of Media and Communication and heads of various departments at the University of Havana. In his speech, ice President Li Ye noted that this year marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Cuba. Recently, leaders of both countries emphasized the need to strengthen comprehensive strategic cooperation and steadfastly advance the construction of a China-Cuba community with a shared future. Mariam Hernández Colina expressed sincere gratitude to our university and stated that the UH would work together with SHNU to build the joint centers into exemplary models of higher education in Cuba. Subsequently, the two universities jointly signed a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of the Joint Center for Higher Education Studies (CHES) and held in-depth discussions on the operation of the two centers, as well as faculty and student exchanges between the institutions. The inauguration of these overseas centers for higher education studies and Marxism research marks a new phase in the internationalization of higher education at our university, as well as a valuable practice in actively expanding overseas student recruitment and enhancing the quality of international students. Both sides introduced their respective educational missions and distinctive features, engaged in detailed discussions on faculty exchange and training programs, reached consensus on implementing specific cooperation initiatives, and signed a conference memorandum.
