SHNU Alumnus Cui Tiankai is Appointed China’s Tenth Ambassador to US

  Recently, President Xi Jinping appointed Cui Tiankai as the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the United States of America. Cui Tiankai became the tenth Chinese ambassador to the U.S.A. and he would go to Washington D.C. to take office in a few days.

  As an alumnus of SHNU’s Foreign Languages College, Cui studied English in the Foreign Languages Department of the university from September, 1974. After graduation, he stayed in the university and worked as a teacher. In February, 1981, after passing the United Nations’ interpreter training course examination, he was admitted and held a post in China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  Cui Tiankai has served as Chinese interpreters of the Secretariat of the United Nations Headquarters, the Director of International Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Deputy Director of the information Department in Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Foreign Ministry’s spokesman.(Translated by Yang Weiye)
