On the afternoon of December 2nd, the Shanghai dialect film "Vegetable and Pork Wonton," brimming with the city's bustling atmosphere and family warmth, premiered at the Mu Jin Cinema on the Xuhui Campus of Shanghai Normal University(SHNU). Organized by SHNU Publicity Department, the event attracted numerous faculty and students. The director, screenwriter, and some leadingactors attended the post-screening Q&A session, engaging in lively and in-depth discussions with the audience.
The film "Vegetable and Pork Wonton" is set in the Shanghai alleyways and follows the life changes of an ordinary Shanghai family. A bowl of
home-cooked vegetable and pork wontons serves as the recurring motif throughout the film. The retired uncle’s daily life, the enduring generational conflicts between young people and their parents over marriage and other relationships --- though set in Shanghai, these intimate human experiences resonate deeply with the everyday lives of ordinary people today.
The post-screening Q&A session elevated the on-site atmosphere to its peak. The crew team shared their stories of producing the film. During the interactive Q&A segment, the audience of teachers and students responded with great enthusiasm.
The successful public screening and exchange of “Vegetable and Pork Wonton” at SHNU was not only a high-quality art appreciation event, but also a thought-provoking cultural education lesson.
