President of Kathmandu University Visits SHNU to Discuss New Pathways for International Cooperation

On the afternoon of January 16th, Achyut Wagle, President of Kathmandu University(KU) in Nepal,led a delegation from the university's College of Humanities, College of Management, College of Engineering, and Confucius Institute to visitShanghai Normal University (SHNU).Zhu Tao, Deputy SecretaryGeneral of the China Association for Innovation Studies, accompanied the delegation. Jiang Mingjun, Vice President of SHNU, attended the meeting, with representatives from the College of Humanities, School of Business, Analytical Testing and Supercomputing Center.

Jiang Mingjun expressed his warm welcome to President Wagle and his delegation, providing a detailed overview of the distinctive strengths and recent achievements in international cooperation and exchanges. He noted that China and Nepal are friendly neighbours with broad prospects for educational collaboration, and he hoped this visit would serve as an opportunity to foster in-depth cooperation between the two institutions in areas such as teacher education large models, AI-driven teaching, humanities and social sciences, and business disciplines, exploring new pathways for internationalization in higher education.

President Wagle sincerely thanked SHNU for the warm reception, introducingthe development history, educational philosophy, teaching and research practices, and international collaboration frameworkof KU. He expressed keen interest in establishing partnershipwhilehe highlighted the university's collaboration needs with Chinese institutions, particularly in AI research and application, joint talent cultivation, and faculty exchange programs.

During the discussions, both sides agreed to sign relevant cooperation agreements to provide a foundation for the implementation of follow-up projects.  

Kathmandu University(KU), established in 1991, is a higher education institution officially recognized by the Nepal Ministry of Education. As the second-largest university in Nepal,the university boasts a comprehensive academic system, comprising multiple colleges such as Science, Engineering, Medicine, Management, Education, Arts, and Law, forming an interdisciplinary educational framework. Currently, it has approximately 20,000 enrolled students and stands as a significant force in Nepal's higher education sector.
