On March 14th local time, the 2026 World Modern Pentathlon Indoor Championships concluded successfully in Hungary. Li Liuchang, an undergraduate student from SHNU School of Physical Education, represented China in the competition. Delivering outstanding performance against fierce international competition, he secured the men's individual championship with a total score of 1,596 points. This victory marks not only his first individual international championship in his career but also the best historical performance by a Chinese male modern pentathlete in this event. Li Liuchang particularly excelled in the fencing and swimming events, achieving first and second place respectively.

The World Modern Pentathlon Indoor Championships is one of the highest-level indoor events globally, hosted by the Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne  (UIPM) and held annually. The competition includes events such as fencing, swimming, laser run (shooting + running), and obstacle race.

Since enrolling in the Sports Training program at SHNU in 2024, Li Liuchang has achieved outstanding results in domestic and international competitions: winning both the individual and team championships in the modern pentathlon at the 2024 National Modern Pentathlon Championships, as well as the team championship in the old pentathlon. In 2025, he secured two silver medals at the 15thNational Games, followed by claiming all three titles—men's individual, men's team, and mixed relay—in the Asian Modern Pentathlon Championships, earning the title of "Triple Champion".
